Sampaguita Choir to Sing in St. Louis
by Lara Puno
January 2007

Members of the Sampaguita Choir and the Sinag-Tala Youth Choir are set to perform at the St. Louis premiere of the Gawad Kalinga movie "Paraiso: Tatlong Kuwento Ng Pagasa" (Paradise: Three Stories of Hope) on March 3rd. The event is sponsored by Gawad Kalinga Missouri and the Filipino community of St. Louis. Our choirs will sing “Paraiso” in addition to the Filipino and American national anthems. Also part of the show is the St. Louis Philippine Arts Foundation, which will perform a Dance of Hope.

"Gawad Kalinga" literally means "to give care." According to their website, it is a grassroots movement which hopes to rid the Philippines of poverty by helping one family at a time, "providing land for the landless, homes for the homeless, food for the hungry and as a result providing dignity and peace for every Filipino."
