In an effort to define the direction of the Filipino Association and gauge the commitment of its members, strategic planning sessions began July 28 with a follow-up meeting on September 15. Short and long term goals and needs were identified and discussed. Commensurate research and planning have also been initiated with the creation of an Ad Hoc Strategic Planning Committee.
Filipino Cultural Center Foundation Board Chair Dr. Lillian Pardo facilitated the meetings which were also designed to bolster youth leadership and participation. Our young adults did not disappoint as an encouraging number of them were in attendance. The "old guards" came in significant numbers as well to show their support and reaffirm their trust and confidence in our youth.
Among the issues discussed were: 1) Expansion and completion of the Filipino Cultural Center; 2) Improvement of membership recruitment, retention and participation; 3) Continuation of cultural exhibits and educational programs; 4) Enhancement of leadership development and mentoring projects; 5) Promotion of stronger outreach programs to increase visibility and relations with other communities, organizations, agencies and institutions; 6) Strengthening the structure, membership and programs of all performing arts groups and 7) Identifying and pursuing alternative and/or additional funding sources.
