October 2007
While last year's "Legacy of Leadership" theme paid tribute to those individuals who took on the daunting task of being President of the Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City, this year’s theme of "Bukas-Palad: A Culture of Generosity" acknowledged those individuals who have given much to our organization both in the past and the present.
Amidst an elegant setting at the huge main ballroom of the Marriott-Muehlebach Hotel in downtown Kansas City, event chairpersons Kevin Bautista, Rachel Manakul, and Bing Sakach made sure everyone had a grand time with a delectable meal, a great band The Essentials, plenty of dancing, and even an ice-sculpture of the FA-GKC logo that greeted everyone upon entering the ballroom!
As in past years, the Sampaguita Choir entertained the cocktail crowd with a few songs and opened the evening’s proceedings with the traditional singing of the U.S. and Philippine national anthems. The Sinag-Tala Dance Troupe provided the evening’s entertainment with a glimpse of their upcoming concert in November at the Folly Theater.
In a fast-paced recognition mid-meal ceremony, several members of the Filipino Association were presented with Bukas-Palad Awards to thank them for their gifts of time, talent and treasure, not only to the Filipino Association but to our community at large, with Awards Committee Chair Ping Bayani presenting the awardees and FA-GKC Board Chair Amy Mesina and September Affair Co-Chair Rachel Manakul handing out the plaques, with the Bukas-Palad logo designed by Edward Tumanut. Emcees Bing Sakach and Carlo Dix made sure the evening moved along smoothly.
Congratulations and thank you to all those who helped make this gala event a tremendous success!
