In 1968, a group of young Filipinos got together and shared nostalgia for a beloved native country. From those treasured memories and deep yearnings, the seeds of an association that would value and preserve the Filipino cultural heritage and provide fellowship for Filipinos in Kansas City were nurtured. And the Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City came to be!
Forty years later, the Association thrives and continues to be a beacon and bond for all those who long for the unique joys that only Filipino camaraderie, hospitality, and culture could provide.
We take pride in our Filipino Cultural Center, a dream-become-reality, where we gather for major events (Fiesta Filipina), celebrations and get-togethers (Easter Picnic and Parents' Night), cultural activities (Sinag-Tala, Filipinettes, and Sampaguita Choir practices), and our monthly meetings, just to name a few.
Take a look at the Association calendar and you will see how busy we are. There is something for everyone - from the Filipino Youth Organization, the (Sinag-Tala Performing Arts Troupe, the Sampaguita Choir, the Senior Council, the Good Samaritans and on and on. In spite of all the activity, there are still some members who don't get involved. They may think, "There's nothing for me." Well, I challenge each and every member, young and old, to make the Association theirs. Every member in the Association is valuable and can make a great impact on our organization. We collectively need your new ideas, your great dreams, your input, and most important, your participation. I invite you to call me and talk about your suggestions, questions or comments.
Let's make this 40th year one to remember and set pace for a great 40 more. Happy 40th Anniversary to the Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City!
